Jeff’s Jags has a passion for Jaguars of all ages

Geoff Connor, owner and Director of Sylvan Garage t/a Jeff’s Jags, has been a Jaguar fanatic for over half a century and bought his first cat in 1979 in the UK (a one-year old black XJS V12 5.3 litre). Upon retirement in 2015 and having lived in South Africa since 2007, Geoff decided to start a business specialising in the service, repair, restoration and sale of Jaguar and Daimler cars of all vintages.

Jeff’s Jags is closely associated with the Jaguar Club Northern Regions (JCNR) here in Johannesburg and many of its members are regular clients. In our fully equipped 1,000m2 workshop (Unit 4C) in Wadeville (SE Johannesburg) we have the latest Jaguar-specific diagnostic equipment, four electro-hydraulic lifts and another eight servicing bays, a range of special tools and a large team of experienced mechanics. We also have an adjacent, connected large warehouse (Unit 5A) containing our panel beating area and a professional state-of-the-art paint spray and baking booth, so we are able to carry out anything from simple servicing to major restorations. Unit 5A is also our “waiting area” for Jaguars and Daimlers awaiting repairs or restoration and houses our used car display/sales area.

We carry a stock of fast-moving new parts and a massive stock of used and reconditioned spare parts for Jags and Daimlers from the 1940’s right up to date. We also stock and fit imported coil-over conversion kits for the later XJ8/XJR air suspension models. We’re regularly asked to supply parts to Jaguar themselves for what they term as “older cars” (viz: more than 5 years old) and they even refer customers with such “old and unsupported” cars to us to carry out servicing and repairs.

In our unending quest to provide a full repair and restoration service for Jaguars and Daimlers of all ages, we out-source the repair and re-trimming of cloth, vinyl and leather interiors (seats, carpets, head-linings, door cards, wood veneering and so on); the machining and fabrication of mechanical components (re-boring, crankshaft re-grinding, cylinder head skilling and reconditioning); fabrication of springs of various sorts (anti-roll bars, road springs, etc.); plus we are currently setting up to be able to carry out repairs, alignment and balancing of wire wheels.

Finally, we have “The Jaguar Exchange”, where one can find a large selection of classic used Jaguars and Daimlers for sale. We also become aware of many classic Jaguars and Daimlers, some “barn finds”, which the owners wish to dispose of, from the early big saloons (SS Jaguar, Mark IV, Mark V, Mark VII, Mark VIII, Mark IX, etc) to Mark II, 420, 3.8S, E-Type, XJ6, XJ12, XJS, Daimler Double Six, X-Type, S-Type, XJR, XJ8, XKR, XK8, XF, F-Type and so on.

Note that the big advantage of cars here on the high veld in central SA is that they are invariably rust-free and prices are very attractive in comparison to the UK, USA, Australia and so on and we have an agent in Australia who can assist potential buyers there with the importation and clearance (asbestos content and so on) and we are able to export cars to any global destination.
