USED CAR STOCK LIST

Sylvan Garage (t/a Jeff’s Jags) is a specialist company dealing exclusively in classic Jaguars and Daimlers based in Johannesburg South Africa, where our “Jaguar Exchange” has a selection of classic Jaguar Cars on display here. We are also happy to arrange export of any of these cars to anywhere in the world!

All cars are right-hand drive unless otherwise stated and, in addition to the cars listed below, we are aware of many other Jaguars and Daimlers for sale (see penultimate page) – so please enquire if the model you want is not listed. www.jeffsjags.co.za
NB: Equivalent £UK prices are given at the current exchange rate

1947 Jaguar Mark IV 3.5 litre Saloon: The restoration of this car is about 80% complete and we have all of the parts to finish it, our problem being that we simply do not have time to accommodate the work until middle of 2025 and the owner has emigrated and he would like a quick sale. The papers are in order and we have a Jaguar Heritage Certificate for the vehicle indicating that it is a matching numbers car, but that the original coachwork was in Suede Green with similar coloured interior upholstery. So this amazing car, worth well over R1m (£43,000) once fully restored, is up for sale at the very special price of only R465,000 (£19,950). If based in South Africa, we are prepared to assist the buyer in completing the restoration later in 2025 and can offer advice, assistance and any parts needed to help complete the job.

1959 Jaguar Mark IX: Extremely rare manual transmission car with overdrive. Beautiful example in Burgundy over Ivory with Ivory leather interior and the subject of a thorough and excellent restoration job in 1993 (32 years ago) and still in excellent original condition.
The Mark IX is a four-door luxury saloon car announced on 8th October 1958 and produced until 1961. It was generally similar to the Mark VIII it replaced, but had a larger, more powerful 3.8 litre engine, 4-wheel disc brakes and power- assisted re-circulating ball steering among its mechanical refinements.
Visually the early versions were identical in exterior appearance to the Mark VIII, except for the addition of a chromed “Mk IX” badge to the boot lid, later versions having a larger tail-lamp assembly with an amber section for traffic indication (as has this car), visually similar to the tail-lights of the smaller Jaguar Mark II. The Mark IX was replaced by the lower and more contemporary-styled Mark X in 1961.
We have applied for a Jaguar Heritage Certificate for the car. R465,000 (£19,950).

1966 Jaguar 3.8 litre Mark II: Currently being worked upon by ourselves, this car is already in excellent condition, with Old English White coachwork, a brand new oxblood red leather interior with new carpets and we are restoring the interior wood dashboard and other trim in burr walnut finish. Specifications include manual gearbox with overdrive and chrome wire wheels and we’re also busy checking and overhauling the engine, gearbox, steering, cooling system, fuel system and so on as required. Since the car has matching numbers we will also apply for a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. R395,000 (£16,950).

2001 RHD Jaguar XJR (X308) 4 litre V8 supercharged auto saloon: Pacific Blue with Oatmeal leather interior and in good condition for its year with some service history. Electric sunroof. Has Jaguar Heritage Certificate. Indicated 175,000 kms. R145,000.(£6,200).

2006 Jaguar XJ6 X350 3.2 litre V6 saloon in Frost Blue with Champagne interior. The original air suspension has been replaced by “Strutmasters” coilover spring conversion and the ride is excellent. A lot of work has been done to the suspension, steering, interior etc. so the car looks and drives like a dream. Although high mileage, for one of Jaguar’s best luxury saloon cars it represents exceptional value for money. Indicated 470,000kms. R230,000 (£9,875).

2002 Jaguar Sovereign XJ8 (X308) 4.0 litre V8 automatic: Excellent example with Topaz coachwork, Ambla interior and beautiful burr walnut facia. The car is in very good condition inside and out and relatively low mileage for its year at 121,373 kms. R195,000 (£8,375).

2010 RHD Jaguar XKR 5 litre V8 supercharged Coupe: This car is in superb condition, low mileage for the year with Jaguar service history, white coachwork (decals can be removed if buyer so desires) and black leather interior. The already extremely powerful engine has been mapped to produce massive power output and the car has been track tested at 345 kph! Full details of the mapping and power output is available. This is a car for a driver who likes the fast lane! 56,457 kms. R625,000. Under Offer.

1968 Jaguar 420, RHD, 98,800miles, a true collector’s car! This magnificently restored, matching numbers 420 saloon, considered by most as the best of the bunch of models starting with the Mark I, Mark II, 3.8S and then the 420, has been a labour of love for her owner for 4 years. With the legendary 4.2 litre DOHC XK engine with manual gearbox and overdrive, independent rear suspension, power steering and disc brakes all round, every nut and bolt has been removed, restored and replaced and there is a file of pictures to prove it. Doubt you’d find a better 420 anywhere and this classic will only appreciate. R395,000 (£16,950).

1946 RHD Jaguar 2½ litre Saloon: On 23 March 1945 Shareholders agreed to change the company’s name to Jaguar Cars Limited. So, when production restarted immediately after World War II, the saloons were simply named Jaguar 1½-litre, 2½-litre or 3½-litre. This particular car was probably partially assembled just prior to WWII but completed immediately after the War and badged as a “Jaguar Car 2½-litre”, as shown on the chrome radiator grille emblem. The original coachwork was black, with Suede Green leather interior. We received a certain amount of old invoices and paperwork for the car, but it would appear that the car was never registered on the South Africa e-Natis system and has been parked up in dry storage for many decades. The car starts, runs and drives with no smoking or strange noises and is virtually complete. The car obviously shows considerable patina, some rust under the paint on the doors and wings, well used original leather interior, dashboard and wood fittings, faded chrome work in places – but all perfectly restorable. We do have a considerable stock of spare parts for this car (including body panels, chrome parts and so on), so we should be able to supply almost anything needed for a full restoration project which, owing to our massive workload, we are unable to undertake at this time. So the car is offered “as-seen” as a restoration project for R425,000 £18,250).

1966 Jaguar E-Type Series I Coupe 2+2 automatic: This superb example was bought by the current owner in Bulawayo in 1982. The car was originally owned by Sir Peter Bednall in Blantyre, Malawi, who took delivery of the car from Ewing & Company on 26th May, 1966. A full restoration of the car was carried out in 2011, including the engine, gearbox and rear axle differential and the trim and paint restored to their original colours. The current owner has covered only a few hundred miles since purchasing it 42 years ago! The car has a Jaguar Heritage Certificate. 66,451 miles. R2,100.000 (£89,950).

NEW ARRIVAL SOON!

2001 RHD Jaguar XKR (X100) 4 litre V8 supercharged convertible: About to come in, this car is in excellent condition with a few minor niggles to sort out, such as the rear view mirror which is clouded over (we have a replacement). Metallic silver coachwork with black leather upholstery. Indicated approximately 237,000 kms. R280,000 (£11,950).

1971 RHD Jaguar E-Type 2+2 manual transmission: Excellent condition in Arctic White with black leather interior is very good condition. Fitted with chrome wire wheels. There is a little bit of work to do to the carburettors, engine and bodywork, of which we are aware and which would be included in the price. 73,103 miles indicated. R930,500 (£39,950) “as-is” or, with all repairs done, serviced and ready to go – R1,25m (£53,650).

1969 RHD Jaguar E-Type Series II 4.2 litre Fixed Head Coupe with manual transmission: This is a FHC not a 2+2 and in excellent overall condition in Old English White, although the red leather interior needs some TLC. The car was initially purchased by Mr T.G. Falcke in London, UK, then  a Mr G.C. Frost became the owner in South Africa and the current owner, Mr R.T. Blower purchased the car from Mr Frost. The car is fitted with chrome wire wheels and has a new, full stainless steel exhaust system fitted and we have carried out some work on the car’s fuel system, but there are a few jobs left to do and the price of the car includes refurbishment of the interior and the whole car. 92,987 miles indicated. The price of the car is “as-is”, or we can refurbish the interior and check over the whole car, but we are extremely busy and we may not be able to fit this in until later in the year. R995,000 (£42,750).

1999 RHD Jaguar XJR (X308) 4 litre V8 supercharged auto saloon: Very good condition with low mileage for its year and in dark blue metallic paint with light leather grey interior. Recent automatic gearbox full rebuild. Serviced by ourselves. Indicated 134,700 kms. R139,500 (£5,950)..

1938 RHD SS Jaguar 3.5 litre Drophead Coupe: Rare car in super good condition overall and very rare car with some original sales paperwork. The car was taken off the road by the current owner’s late father and de-registered in the 1960’s, but now runs and drives very well and re-registration on the licensing system in South Africa is in progress, plus a Jaguar Heritage Certificate has been applied for. It is not a matching numbers car in terms of the chassis/body and engine, but 90% original. We believe a little money will need to be spent on the car in terms of the headlamp glasses for example (although we may have some in stock) and a few other minor things. But this is reflected in the price of R1,750,000 (£74,500).

1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III 5.3 litre V12 Roadster: Superb matching numbers car with confirmatory Jaguar Heritage Certificate. The car is a convertible with new hood and a rare, lined, removable black hard top with Webasto sunroof and new windscreen is being fitted, the coachwork is finished in Regency Red and Biscuit leather interior, is in outstanding condition and has never been completely restored.
This is a low mileage car (indicated only 39,000 miles) with two owners before the current one and, based upon the condition of the engine and chassis and the large bundle of service and repair history (which will be supplied with the car) that goes way back to the first owner, this mileage is assumed to be correct.
The car is fitted with automatic transmission and chrome wire wheels and the sometimes troublesome OPUS ignition system was replaced with Petronix Ignitor and the distributor is fitted with vacuum advance, making the engine much more responsive at partial throttle and generating less heat at idle. The car has also been retro-fitted with air-conditioning. R1,860,000 (£79,950).

1956 RHD Jaguar XK140 SE FHC: This stunningly beautiful, rare and matching numbers car has been in Southern Africa all of its life. It was imported to Rhodesia in 1956 and was originally Birch Grey, but came to South Africa in the 1970’s and the lady owner didn’t like the colour so it was repainted in white and baptised “Flossie”, a name that has stuck with the car ever since. The car was repainted again in a Dark Red by a subsequent owner and was seen racing in many post ’45 Regularity Rallies throughout South Africa, including Cape Natal Orange Free State Provinces. Then in the 1990’s the car was restored and painted again to the present dark blue. The current owner purchased Flossie in Knysna in 2007. Apart from the colour changes, Flossie is still very original and in excellent condition. A Kenlow Fan and electronic ignition have been added, as have mirrors to the wings. The engine was rebuilt in 2020 and the brakes have recently been checked. Many invoices and a Jaguar Heritage Certificate accompany the car which is still on its original steel wheels with spats. Indicated 74,350 miles. R1,250,000 (£53,650).

1964 RHD Daimler V8 Automatic: Very rare and beautiful example, this car was purchased in Jersey, UK in 1964 and driven in the UK for 6 months before being exported to Durban. The owner of the car has details of all three previous owners from 1964 to date, the first owner having repainted in Maroon. There’s a lot of recorded history that accompanies the car, including the fact that in about 1984 the original engine broke a piston and connecting rod. So the car was left standing for a while, but was resuscitated after a spare sub-assembly was located locally and the original cylinder heads etc. fitted. The current owner has the original engine block. The car was then restored over a period of about three 3 years, including a bare metal repaint to the current Candy Apple Red, with a lot of work done to the engine and transmission. New stainless steel wire rims replaced the original steel wheels and new tan, genuine cow-hide upholstery was fitted professionally by a specialist along with a new head lining and wool carpets, plus all of the interior wood was re-veneered. A new electric fan was fitted – the list goes on and on! The car was first shown in its current state at the Johannesburg Vintage & Veteran Club in August 2018 and subsequently at various VVC meetings and breakfasts, Piston Ring Club and Cars in the Park at Swartkops Race Track and always attracts attention due to its rarity. R345,000.
